Share your WVU Love Story

WVU holds many special memories for our alumni and friends. But, perhaps some of the most memorable stories come from those who met that special someone while on campus. There are so many amazing stories of alumni and friends who fell in love at WVU. There is the great story of Jimmy and Katie McCartney. Jimmy was student body president and remembers seeing this “cute” little blonde in line at E. Moore Hall. He knew he had to meet her, and now, more than 65 years later, the two have made a wonderful life together. Share your story with us.

Help the Pride Travel Fund

For Mountaineer fans, the “West Virginia University Marching Band’s pre-game and half-time performances are integral parts of the home football game experience. But taking “The Pride” on the road can be quite a challenge.

Getting the nearly 400-member band to away games or events around the state is quite expensive.

Although the University and the Athletic Department provide financial support for the band, escalating travel expenses exceed the band’s budget. Simply put, private support is needed for the band to travel outside Morgantown.

Jay Drury, director of the Mountaineer Marching Band, said buses, hotels and food are the three major travel costs for the band. The largest single expense is the nine charter buses it takes to move the band from one location to another. The Pride Travel Fund, established by the WVU Foundation, helps defer travel costs associated with the band. Without the support of WVU alumni and friends through the Fund, the band’s appearances will be limited. Read more.

WVU Alumni Association to move into new home

Construction on the new Erickson Alumni Center is nearing completion, and the West Virginia University Alumni Association will be moving its offices to the new facility Sept. 24-26. Here’s a link to a photo gallery of the Alumni Center.

The association will officially open for business Monday, Sept. 29, in the new location – 57 Alumni Drive (formerly Medical Center Drive), near Ruby Memorial Hospital and Milan Puskar Stadium. The center is more than quadruple the size of the current facility and features multiple meeting/conference facilities, state-of-the-art technology, an outdoor fireplace and a landmark bell tower.

“Alumni are very excited for this new center to open its doors,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and chief executive officer of the WVU Alumni Association. “The next few weeks will be busy as we begin to welcome visitors into our new home. We are looking forward to showcasing this magnificent facility.”

During the coming weeks, numerous events are planned at the Erickson Alumni Center. The association will host a special donor celebration Oct. 23 prior to the WVU-Auburn football game. The official public grand opening will be from 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and will include tours of the new facility. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
